Taking the stress out of Christmas dinner with HelloFresh

Last week we all put on our Christmas jumpers, and had a trial run for our Christmas dinner. Usually James does all the cooking for Christmas dinner, but this year I want to do it, and I wanted to check that everything would run smoothly.

This Christmas we are trying the HelloFresh Christmas feast box. It promises to take the stress out of Christmas dinner. Usually we end up in the supermarket early on Christmas eve trying to pick out the freshest Brussels sprouts and sausages for those important pigs in blankets.

This year however, we are ordering the HelloFresh Christmas feast box. No more trawling the supermarket, beating the crowds, or forgetting the potatoes!

It was our first HelloFresh box, and I didn’t really know what to expect of the packaging etc. I was really surprised when my delivery message came from DPD, and wondered how it would be kept cold. When it arrived it was so well packed, all of the fresh chiller items were in one half of the box, fully insulated with lots of ice packs. It was delivered to a safe place, and when I got home the delivery was still perfectly cold.

The ingredients were all fresh and great quality, sourced from the HelloFresh trusted farms.

The night before:

It was the night before Christmas,

The children, dreaming in their beds,

Mummy was busy preparing the veg.

The recipe card is separated into three sections. The night before, In the morning, and time to serve.

Once the children were tucked in to their beds, I put on my favourite PJ’s and got to work.

First job was to prepare the gravy. I have never made fresh gravy before, but I’ll definitely do it again. Each instruction starts with the ingredients that you need, followed by the individual instructions.

The plan was really easy to follow. That evening I made the gravy, prepared the pigs in blankets and chopped and prepared the vegetables. Once that was all done I was off to my bed to get some sleep before the big day!

On the morning:

Up early and ready to get a head start. The recipe cards states you need to start 3 hours before you plan to eat. But, rest assured, you wont be tied to the kitchen for the whole time missing out on the Christmas fun.

I started by preparing the turkey. Seasoned with rosemary butter and a little salt and pepper before going in the oven. The timings are all on the recipe card. With really simple step by step instructions, you can’t go wrong.

I started the potatoes next, parboiling them then seasoning them ready to be roasted a little later. I also seasoned the carrots and parsnips with honey and thyme ready to go in the oven with the potatoes.

Whilst the turkey was in the oven I cooked the red cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Both were really quite simple, as long as you keep an eye on the recipe card for timings you can’t do much wrong.

Time to serve

Soon it was time to set the table and dish up. I gave James the job of carving the turkey whilst I set the table, it’s not my best Christmas table decorations, I didn’t have time to get all of the decorations out of the loft.

Once the turkey was served and the gravy was heated it was time to dish up, pull the crackers and tuck in.

Everyone really enjoyed their Christmas dinner. The quality of the ingredients was clear from preparation through to eating. Everything was delicious.  Even Arthur tried a bit of everything, and he doesn’t really like a roast dinner. It really did take the stress out of making Christmas dinner, the thought of not having to do that dreaded food shop. The design of the recipe card makes everything simple and easy to follow.

I would definitely recommend the HelloFresh Christmas box to everyone.

The HelloFresh Christmas feast box starts at £69.99 for the standard 4 person dinner. You can order up to 10 people or choose the premium box to include dessert.
